Remove Tonsils and Adenoids
Coblation® Tonsillectomy
and Adenoidectomy is a gentler procedure for removing both tonsils
and adenoids offering a fast and easy recovery. Traditionally,
tonsils and adenoids are removed by cutting or burning, which
can cause extensive pain and damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
Coblation is an advanced technology that combines gentle radio
frequency energy with a natural salt solution - to quickly and
safely remove tonsils and adenoids. Because traditional procedures
use high levels of heat to remove the tonsils and adenoids, damage
to surrounding healthy tissue is common. Coblation does not remove
the tonsils or adenoids by heating or burning, leaving the healthy
tissue surrounding the tonsils unaffected.
The
innovative approach of Coblation results in minimal pain and
rapid recovery for patients.
Coblation
Tonsillectomy Procedure
Coblation
Tonsillectomy can greatly improve your patients' postoperative
experience. The device used in this procedure is the EVac® 70,
EVac 70 Xtra, or EVac T&A Plasma Wand™. The procedure
is performed in a dry field and the Wand(s) can be used to either
remove the tonsils via dissection for a tonsillectomy or to perform
an intracapsular tonsillectomy. Studies published in peer-reviewed
journals have shown Coblation Tonsillectomy to have the following
patient benefits in comparison to conventional electrocautery
tonsillectomy:
The
advantages of a Coblation Tonsillectomy:
• Significantly less pain and less frequent use of narcotics
• Significantly faster return to normal diet (2.4 days vs. 7.6 days
on average)
• Less incidence of postoperative nausea and throat swelling
• Less depth of thermal adjacent tissue necrosis
• Faster healing of tonsillar fossae
